50 Dedicated Cycle of Life Tour Riders Raise 50K for Hospice Care
July 26th & 27th, 2014

What:  On July 26th, 2014, 50 local cyclists and hospice supporters will participate in a two-day round trip, Victoria to Salt Spring Island group bike ride to raise awareness and funds for hospice care in our communities.

The course route is approximately 200 kilometers and will take the cyclists along the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, through West Saanich, along the Cowichan Valley’s rural coastline, over the scenic country roads of Salt Spring Island and back along the Saanich Peninsula.

To participate, each cyclist has committed to raise a minimum of $500 dollars in pledges.  Most have significantly exceeded this goal, with some riders achieving over $3000 in pledges.

Due to the support of generous sponsors, (www.cycleoflifetour.ca/sponsors) 100% of the funds raised are contributed directly to local hospice societies.

The Cycle of Life Tour 2014 is estimating a donation of approximately $50,000 will be made to hospice care at the conclusion of this year’s event. To date (since 2011), the Cycle of Life Tour has now raised over $100,000 for hospice care in Canada.

Why:   Roughly 50% of Victoria Hospice’s annual operating costs are not covered by our health care system and must be funded through community donations and events like the Cycle of Life Tour.  The 2014 Tour will support the Victoria Hospice, Salt Spring Island Hospice, Cowichan Valley Hospice, Sooke Hospice and Nanaimo Hospice.

Who:   The Cycle of Life Tour has evolved from a solo long distance ride in 2011 to its current group ride format, which enabled a significant increase in fundraising potential.  To date, the Cycle of Life Tour has raised $55,000 for hospice care across Canada with the majority of funding distributed on lower Vancouver Island.

The Cycle of Life Tour is not (yet) an official registered charity.  It is organized and operated by Graham Robertson and Beth Turner in their spare time. This project would not be possible without a crew of dedicated volunteers and a select group of generous sponsors and suppliers.
